After being on the I-5 North for a couple hours, it was time to get some gas. We pulled into the nearest Chevron, and I noticed a guy in front of the store counting money on the ground. My heart dropped, and I believe God wanted me to ask if he needed some money or help.

As I walk to the store I made eye contact with him, smiled, and he smiled back at me, and I continued to walk. I didn’t have the guts to ask him, so I said to myself “I’ll ask him when I leave the store….Yea that’s what I’ll do!”

I got my two coffee drinks for the road, cause it was my turn to drive. I start walking around the store after I already paid, thinking about what I’m gonna say.

5 Minutes later I finally leave the store and walk back to the car. Again I made eye contact with him, smiled, and he smiled back at me, and I continued to walk.

      Another failed attempt…

So I decided to go use the restroom. Again, I made eye contact with him, smiled, and he smiled back at me, and I continued to walk. After the restroom, Again! I made eye contact with him, smiled, and he smiled back at me, and I continued to walk…

Finally, I said to myself… “I’m just gonna do it”.

As I walked back to the store, I made eye contact with him, smiled, and he smiled back at me.

“I noticed that you were counting some money on the ground. Did you need some cash or help?” I said.

“Oh…no no! I’m perfectly fine. I have money and all. It’s just that my car broke down on the Highway. Actually, do you have a phone I can borrow to call my grandparents?” he said.

“Of course! You sure you don’t need anything else? We have some snacks in the car I can give you.” I said.

“I am perfectly fine, thank you. I really appreciate it.” he said.

He was perfectly fine. He didn’t need money or food, just a phone to make a call. Sometimes I think, that to make a difference, it has to be something BIG! God reminded me that it’s not all about the Big differences you can make… but the small ones as well.

It was really nice meeting you Matt.
